What to see Way back in the 18th Century, pirates roamed the creeks and headlands of these 700 or so islands, of whom the most notorious was Blackbeard. Today, it is tourists who roam the area, enjoying the variety the Bahamas can offer. New Providence, and in particular the capital Nassau, combines old world charm and colonial architecture with the buzz and excitement of a busy city and cruise port. By day you can enjoy the shops, markets and beaches, by night the wide variety of restaurants and casinos. The family islands, by total contrast, are peaceful and private. |
