The Wordsworth Hotel is set in the most attractive village of Grasmere, one of the most beautiful parts of the English Lake District in Cumbria. Many years ago, it was a staging post on the North/South route through the Lakes. Alfred Lord Tennyson, and President Woodrow Wilson were just two of the famous guests who stayed here. Ever since other well known guests have visited us and some more than once. In the late seventies, Mr Reg Gifford, former owner of Michaels Nook, bought the house and restored it as a beautiful country house hotel. Our Manager welcomes you along with a team of very special staff, whose friendliness and personal touches have earned them the AA Care & Courtesy Award. More recently the Wordsworth Hotel was elected Hotel of The Year 2004 by the Discover Travel & Tours organisation, who held an questionaire among their thousands of (international) vistors to the UK. The hotel restaurant, the Prelude, has been awarded this year Lake District Best Restaurant of the Year by Lancashire Life Magazine , which is part of their (annual) Food & Wine Awards 2004-2005.

There are thirty-five most attractive and comfortable bedrooms, each with a well-equipped bathroom, radio, colour television, direct-dial telephone and intercom. 24-hour room service is available for drinks and light refreshments. (There are two ground floor rooms.)

We also have two delightful Suites, with whirlpool baths, and a lift to both upper floors.

For a Romantic short break, there are several four poster bedrooms, which are very popular. There is also one original bathroom of the house, with an enormous bath in the centre of the bathroom and a power shower to put many modern ones to shame, with room for two!. This takes you back to Victorian days.
