The luxurious Hotel Forte Sao Joao Baptista is located near Porto in Northern Portugal.
This XVII century fort, originally built for the military defence of the River Ave, has recently been converted into a small, delightful hotel. The hotel offers luxury and comfort in superb surroundings. Located in Vila do Conde, approximately 30 kms from Oporto, the ‘Forte' is situated between the River and the Atlantic Ocean.
The location is convenient for Exponor, the exhibition hall for the north of Portugal.
The old part of Vila do Conde remains an active fishing port with a bustling Friday market and an interesting medieval quarter. The narrow streets are at their best on religious holidays when the chapels in the narrow streets are alive with worshippers. Jose Regio's house, in the Avenida named after him, is also worth a visit, displaying popular art collected by the famous writer. The coastal road has several restaurants specialising in the local fish dishes. The Forte opens onto a square decorated by the charismatic sculptor, Joao Antero. It is the perfect place for parties, concerts and dining ‘al fresco'.

The accommodation consists of seven independent units off the main patio, all with private entrance. Six of the units are built on two levels, the details are as follows :

GROUND FLOOR:
Living room with fireplace, Satellite televison, CD player, direct dial telephone and mini-bar.

UPPER FLOOR:
En-suite bedroom with a double bed, bath robes, hair dryer and safe. The 7th bedroom is located in a single storey unit and it does not have a living room.

All of the paintings adorning the rooms are by young Portuguese artists and are for sale.
