Hotel Description
Built in 1722, what is now the hotel, was a private residence with an enclosed garden.
The house was a meeting place for impressionists painters such as Paul Signac. Colette lived in the house in 1927.
The house was bought after the war by Philippe Tallien, the former dancer from the "Monte Carlo Ballets" and antique dealer. Tallien transformed the house into the hotel which he would name the "Aioli"
(after a typical french dish from Provence.)
The hotel, situated on a small street in an older part of the village, has a wide and warm entrance with a view of a beautiful inner flower garden.
Most of the rooms have a view of a quiet patio. Other rooms in upper levels have a unique view overlooking the Gulf of Saint Tropez.
Opened in 1948, it quickly became "the" hotel when one came to Saint Tropez.
The restaurant and the bar, which Phillippe Tallien would keep lively, were places
where one had to be seen every evening.
Orson Wells was a regular there, sometimes staying for as long as two months. Appreciating good food, Wells would order his favorite dishes and even participate in the preparation with the chef.
Hollywood regulars would arrive later in his stay, such as Tyrone Power, Linda Christian, Greta Garbo, Rita hayworth, the Prince Ali Khan, and many others.
In the 1950's a couple from Texas celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at the Hotel and invited all the Hotel clients...for three days! Jean Marais an Jean Cocteau attended the party as well.
Jacques Charon and Robert Hirsch, members of the National French Theatre Company were husking beans in the garden.
Errol Flynn, in the company of a young starlette, did not leave his room for three days...
Philippe Tallien knew how to give the hotel a cool but fashionable style where anonymous billionaires and movie stars could get along calling each other by there first names and living like guests in a private residence.
The Aioli became the Yaca in 1968 and was restored in the early 1970's by Mr and Mrs Bourdereau, who also installed the swimming pool.
The hotel quickly gained an exceptional clientel consisting of businessmen from all over the world as well as celebrities such as Charles Aznavour, Eddie Barclay, Jose Luis de Villalonga, Jacques Chazot, Pierre Cardin, Alain Delon, Romy Schneider, Bourvil, Brigitte
Bardot, Daniel Delorme, Michel Galabru, Michele Morgan, Gerard Oury and Louis de Funes who became regular clients of the hotel.
The Yaca was a three star hotel until 1992. Mr Huret, who has owned it since 1980, renovated the whole building. Since then the Yaca has been a Deluxe hotel.
