Here, right next to the "Bundeshaus", we have been welcoming our guests for more than a century with Bern hospitality, statesmanlike discretion and the promise of a unique hotel culture. The Hotel Bernerhof was already established west of the Bundeshaus around 1850. In 1856 Friedrich Osswald decided to set up accommodation for the upper classes and the state guests of the Ancien Régime. In 1865 he built the Hotel Bellevue with charming French gardens, from where the guest could enjoy the magnificent view of the famous Alp panorama. The old Bellevue experienced glorious times; kings and emperors stayed here.
Soon, before the first world war, it could no longer meet the high standards required, and so the builder's son set about enlarging the hotel. In 1913 the new Hotel Bellevue was opened with a big party. Then, when the first world war broke out, the Hotel Bellevue received very special guests. General Wille make the hotel into his military headquarters for four years. The hotel had a chequered history for quite a few more years. In 2002 it has been closed down for one year and was completely renovated.
