The outlook from Crammond House takes in a broad sweep of ocean, beach and mountains, which as the light changes throughout the day, can be so dramatic that it is hard to tear your eyes away. Not that one is easily tempted to leave this spacious and very stylish villa, with its lovely swimming pool and lawned gardens perched high up in the secluded Camps Bay region just outside Cape Town. Inside, the combination of African artefacts and light furnishings conveys a very understated elegance. Of course, at night you can venture forth to sample the gastronomic delights of some of the Cape's finest restaurants - none of them far away - though you could just as easily put together your own braai on the villa's indoor barbecue and dine out under the African stars.
