FOOD & WINE
Like the other great wine regions of the world, the food and wine experience in the Barossa is arguably the greatest drawcard and very often the highlight of a visit to this magnificent region. While there are plenty of diversions to inspire and sustain visitors as they discover the other delights and attractions of South Australia, the primary reason to make the Barossa a “must see” destination is the unsurpassed breadth and depth of the culinary and viticulture experience here.
Our food and wine experience encompasses the flavours of the seasonal produce and traditional meats and breads that abound at the local Farmer’s Market, the specialist providores and on the tables of the Barossa. It is epitomised by the smells of harvest and vintage in the autumn months, and the seductive bouquet of wine aging gracefully in barrel as you enter the many wineries and cellar doors of the region. The authenticity of the experience is secured by the many great characters that define the Barossa and its passion for quality food, wine and lifestyle.
The Barossa is the undisputed wine capitol of Australia, home to more than 600 grapegrowers and 100 or more wineries. Barossa shiraz red wines and nearby Eden Valley crisp white rieslings are perennial international world gold medal winners. The wine making experience may be shared up close and personal at five dozen cellar doors within a few minutes walk, bike ride or drive from The Louise.
And, the food and wine experience all comes together at Barossa restaurants such as our on-site Appellation. A six course signature Appellation Tasting Menu with wine pairings is among the top delights of touring Australia’s outstanding wine region. Location The Louise and Appellation are conveniently located 75 minutes northeast of the city of Adelaide and the Adelaide International airport in South Australia. Most visitors travel to the Barossa from the city and airport by rental car, although guides and limo services are readily available in addition to helicopter transfers. The property is sited at the hilltop in Marananga in the Northwestern quadrant of the Barossa Valley, central to the wineries, vineyards and touring activities of this internationally renowned wine region.
