The Grand Hotel has an impressive lineage, built by Emmanuel Héré, designer of Stanislas square and architect to King Stanislas of Poland. The hotel, surrounding buildings and monuments were placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1983 for being of "truly outstanding interest and representing universal values". In 2005 Stanislas square was completely renovated, returning it to its former state, as a fully pedestrianised area. Built in the 1750s this small jewel of a hotel played host to the toast of European royalty in its heyday, its royal guests once included Marie-Antoinette and Russian Czar Alexander 1st. The 42 guest rooms are graced with Louis XV style furniture and rich fabrics taking every visitor back to "La Belle Époque", a time of indulgence and luxury living enjoyed by France's elite.
