Hotel Description
The Masters Lodge is a small luxury lodge positioned atop Bluff Hill in the Art Deco City of Napier with spectacular views over the blue South Pacific Ocean, Cape Kidnappers, the Art Deco City of Napier and the Marine Parade. This landmark residence was the home of one of New Zealand's most wealthy entrepreneurs, Johann Gerhard Husheer, Founder and Director of The National Tobacco Company of New Zealand. The residence was designed by famed New Zealand Architect Louis Hay in the early 1930s when he also designed Napier's most famous Art Deco building - The National Tobacco Company Building. The Lodge features original Art Deco and Art Nouveau furnishings, servant bell system and extensive leadlighting (stained glass) throughout. The Beach, Shops, Restaurants, Museums and Central Business District are all within a 10 minute walk from the Lodge.

After a day of golf, or tramping in the wilderness or on the Wine Trail, indulge in a luxurious Massage in the Solarium, savour a refreshing drink on the wide Verandah, unwind with the sights and fragrances of the Flower Garden, or linger in our small Native Bush inhabited by tui's & dancing fantails ... where it is tempting to speculate that the Puka, Punga and Puriri trees flourishing there are the very specimens recorded in the hand-written notes of Baron Husheer when he planted them in 1927 ... and enjoy an intimate Gourmet Dinner served by candlelight in the Dining Room, on the Verandah, or in the Garden.

Our Gourmet Dinners are prepared by our own Chef and are complemented by rare local wines from our extensive wine cellar. The highlight for wine enthusiasts staying at the Lodge is certainly the Dinner with the Winemaker. For the Art Deco enthusiasts, we will arrange an Art Deco Dinner to include a private tour of the Art Deco City in a vintage car, cocktails and a hosted dinner at the Lodge with your personal expert in Art Deco architecture and design. Or, join our Chef in The Master's Kitchen for a personal Culinary Class where you will learn to prepare the evening's culinary delights. This is a "hands-on" opportunity to actually help the Chef prepare your own meal while learning about New Zealand cuisine, Hawke's Bay meats, seafood and produce, and professional cooking techniques.

After a refreshing sleep, awake to the sound of the ocean and the chorus of native birds in the bush & garden. Start your day with a delicious breakfast on the shady Verandah, in the Garden, or in the impressive Dining Room, and soak up the scenic splendour that matches the quality of the Lodge!
