Hotel Description
Woodbridge on the Derwent is small and personal, with only nine luxuriously equipped rooms and suites. The Heritage-listed hotel building was built in 1825, on the banks of the beautiful Derwent River. An Australian award-winning renovation transformed the mansion into a boutique hotel, and it was selected as Tasmania's first member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
The style is an elegant blend of historic authenticity and modern comfort and amenity. The rooms and suites are comprehensively equipped, as you would expect of a small luxury hotel. All have river views, all but one have open wood fireplaces, and all are spacious, quiet and comfortable.
The Ballroom and the Reading Room are perfect for fireside relaxation, and books, magazines, games and a pianola provide distraction. For the more active, our complimentary bicycles and kayaks, mini-gym, sauna and hot-tub are on hand. The riverside parks offer delightful walks, and the local antique galleries and shops are a few minutes away.
We can readily arrange activities further afield - fly fishing, wilderness treks, wine tours, whisky tasting, cooking schools, wildlife sanctuaries, golfing, are all available. many of these experiences are exclusive to our hotel, and privately guided.
Woodbridge is centrally located in Southern Tasmania. It makes a perfect base for enjoying the rich array of experiences available by half and full day drives - national parks, wilderness areas, the MONA Art Gallery, Salemanca markets, Bruny Island, Port Arthur, Richmond and the Coal River Valley, the Hobart waterfront. On your return to Woodbridge, a warm fire and glass of wine await...

Spa Suites at Woodbridge on the Derwent
The Three Bridges (Sunroom, sitting room, bedroom + spa ensuite, queen bed, private exit, two open fireplaces) overlooks the site of the three bridges built one beside the other, the first in 1834. The remains of these three bridges can be seen from the river foreshore at the end of Bridge Street. It is from this 'wood bridge' that the 1825-built residence obtained its name. The sunroom opens directly onto the garden.
The Alloway Banks (Sitting room, bed room, spa ensuite, king bed, private exit, open fireplace),commemorates the collection of beautiful outbuildings, cottages and barns, known collectively as Alloway Banks, which were part of the original property which were demolished in 1972 when the new bridge was constructed. This suite is on the lower floor with its intrigue of lower ceilings and stone corridors, and opens directly onto the garden.

Facilities
Dining at Woodbridge on the Derwent As with everything else at Woodbridge , dining is an experience,in our Pavilion overhanging the river! Pre-dinner drinks start at 6.00pm and you will not want to miss one second of sundown over the Derwent.

Our preference is for slowed cooked food that's full of flavour.

Our staff are happy to advise you on your selection from our premium Derwent Valley beverages list. Woodbridge is proud to hold some of the last remaining bottles of the Stefano Lubiana 2005 Sasso and also their 1995 'Prestige' Vintage, which has taken 'champagne' back to the French! And we have purchased the first edition of the Nant Double Malt, to end the night on a mellow note.

From our 'breakfasts worth waking for' to our wonderful picnic hampers, through to our fabulous dinners, you will discover why the Derwent Valley is renowned for it's produce.
